Challenging Race 7 for Team 18 in Perth

DEWALT Racing’s Mark Winterbottom and Toyota Forklifts’ Scott Pye finished 18th and 20th respectively in a challenging Race 7 of the 2023 Repco Supercars Championship at the Perth SuperSprint at Raceway.

In his 600th Supercars Championship start, Winterbottom started 13th and maintained position early before struggling for balance and tyre life as the race unfolded, eventually finishing 18th.

Pye likewise battled for optimum balance and tyre performance, but showed strong speed in the closing stages of the race.

Team 18 are back in action for Races 8 and 9 at the Perth SuperSprint tomorrow at 11:45am and 3:45pm respectively. All the action can be viewed live on Fox Sports and Kayo.

Qualifying: 20th (55.0107)
Race 7: 20th (Fastest Lap: 56.0902)

“It was a tough day as a group. We’ve got to hit the reset tomorrow and come out stronger.”

“We struggled for balance across both cars and on my side I felt like after the stop we were a lot more competitive, we were probably one of the quickest cars after the stop, but before that we really struggled for speed and I was struggling out of the corners, people pulling up alongside out of the bowl and I couldn’t really defend it.”

“We’ll go again tomorrow and hopefully qualify better. We saw today fast cars can move forward and that was good to see. Hopefully tomorrow we have a fast car and we can race our way forward.”

Mark Winterbottom, driver #600 DEWALT Racing Chevrolet Camaro ZL1

Qualifying: 13th (54.5814)
Race 7: 18th (Fastest Lap: 56.2183)

“It was a tough race, we tried something and didn’t work, But that’s what you do in this sport. You throw something at it and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

“We almost made the top 10 in qualifying, we were close, but in the race we struggled for pace, so we’ve got work to do.

“We have a good group around us and we’ll keep trying. We get two more cracks tomorrow, so we’ll see if we can make it a faster car. I felt like I drove well today with the lap and all that sort of stuff, but we’ve just got a little bit of work to do to get it where it needs to be.”
