2024 betr Darwin Triple Crown, Event 05 of the Repco Supercars Championship, Hidden Valley, Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia. 15 Jun, 2024.

TRADIE Beer Racing’s David Reynolds gained nine positions to finish 12th in Race 12 at the Darwin Triple Crown, with DEWALT Racing’s’ Mark Winterbottom coming home in 19th.

A challenging qualifying session in the morning saw both cars impacted by traffic on their final qualifying efforts, with Winterbottom starting 18th and Reynolds 21st.

Winterbottom made his way through the action in the opening stages and climbed his way up to 11th with great pace before the pit stop cycle began. However, a wheel nut issue during his stop saw him drop back to 19th position at the chequered flag.

Reynolds meanwhile made use of a strong undercut and climbed up to 12th, a strong recovery in the TRADIE Beer Camaro.

The next round of the Repco Supercars Championship heads to the NTI Townsville 500 on 5-7 July.

“Yesterday was a great day and today just a few little mistakes.

In qualifying, we got the timing wrong but the car was good again for top 5. I got traffic on my lap and stuff like that which put me in the pack.

“I got a mega start and drove through the field up to 11th at the time. I came in for a pit stop and had a cross threaded wheel nut and instead of a seven second stop, I did a 16 or 17 second stop and had to run that same left front tyre too.

“It was a tough day, but all in all a very strong weekend. Last year when we won here, I didn’t feel like we had a read on the car, whereas this weekend, I feel like all the little changes we’re making actually make the car better or worse, so It’s responding.

“We can fix the easy stuff. I think we’ve got a fast car  and hopefully this turns our year around.”

It was  a trying day. You know, obviously yesterday  went fairly, went pretty well for the entire team. So we had high hopes going in today. But, I don’t know, we rolled out just off the pace. It was kind of weird because the cars are very similar to yesterday. Or pretty much identical.

Qualifying: 21st

Race 12: 12th

“It was a trying day. Yesterday went pretty well for the entire team so we had high hopes going in today, but we rolled out just off the pace. It was kind of weird because the cars are very similar to yesterday or pretty much identical and the track obviously changed a lot overnight.

“In Qualifying we messed up our process and when we elected to go, but all in all, you the cars just weren’t fast enough, so we had to start 21st. In the race, there was a bit of carnage at the start, people crashing into each other. We had a reasonable car, reasonable strategy, and we got ourselves to 12th, so it was a decent recovery, but you just need to work on car speed for Townsville.
