Team 18 owner Charlie Schwerkolt praised the turnout of fans for the team’s first ever open day at their Mount Waverley headquarters last weekend.

The team opened their doors for the first time to over 400 fans to gain access into the inner workings of the team as it enters the Gen3 era of Supercars in 2023.

The team’s star drivers Mark Winterbottom and Scott Pye featured throughout the day with Q&A sessions and to meet and greet with the fans. Pye was also on hand to reveal the #20 Toyota Forklifts Holden ZB Commodore for the season finale at the Adelaide 500.

“It was a great day to open the doors and showcase what we’ve got,” said Mark Winterbottom.

“It was really good to take people through, instead of just seeing the cars and the team on TV, it allows them to relate a bit more to it all and see what goes on here.

Fans were treated to a live pit stop demonstration by the Team 18 pit crew and also had the chance to try out a wheel change challenge on the team’s pit stop practice car.

Fans also used the opportunity to buy up a range of team memorabilia and merchandise as well as check out displays from various Team 18 partners including IRWIN Tools, Barry Bourke Motors and GM Special Vehicles.

The Open Day was attended by Chevrolet Racing’s Gen3 Camaro Program Manager Steve Byrne to show off Team 18’s two Gen3 chassis and to talk fans through the future of the Gen3 racing program.

“Our first Team 18 Family Open Day was a huge success. The turnout was amazing with over 400 fans making their way through the gates and the atmosphere was fantastic,” said Team Owner Charlie Schwerkolt.

“The feedback from all the fans I spoke to was really encouraging for where we’re going as a team. We can’t do what we do without the incredible support of our fan base so it was great to reward them by opening the doors up for the day.

“The interest in our Gen3 program was really exciting. A huge thanks to Steve Byrne from Chevrolet Racing for taking time to come out and speak to the fans about the next phase for the brand and we can’t wait to follow the journey of our Camaros coming to life in the next weeks and months.”

Team 18’s attention now turns towards this weekend’s VALO Adelaide 500, the final round of the 2022 Repco Supercars Championship which kicks off on Thursday 1 December.
