The OTR SuperSprint at The Bend Motorsport Park presented Team 18 with a demanding first day as DEWALT Racing’s Mark Winterbottom and BP Ultimate Racing’s Scott Pye overcame hurdles to achieve finishes of 17th and 22nd in Race 20.

Starting from the 21st and 23rd positions due to a lack of progress in the initial knockout qualifying session, Winterbottom and Pye were met with challenging conditions from the outset. Pye showcased fantastic heads-up driving on Lap 1, swerving past a Turn 1 incident involving Cameron Hill and Will Brown. Winterbottom showed his experience and managed to manoeuvre through the debris and cars after a momentary halt.

With the race resuming on Lap 5, Pye made an early pit stop as the pit window opened, while Winterbottom stayed on track until the final stages.

Winterbottom’s late pit stop allowed him to secure 17th place at the finish line, while Pye crossed in 22nd.

With a steadfast commitment to improvement, Team 18 looks ahead to bouncing back stronger in Races 21 and 22.

Team 18 will be back on track on Sunday for back-to-back Qualifying sessions at 9:45 am, followed by Race 21 at 12:50 pm and Race 22 at 3:50 pm local time.

All the action can be viewed live on Fox Sports and Kayo.

“It was a very difficult day.

“We continued to struggle ad didn’t improve it, but good thing about our sport is we go to bed, get two more chances tomorrow and we’ll try again.

“On a positive, we moved forward. The guys did a great pit stop and we maximised what we had, but we’re just so far off the pace.”

Scott Pye, driver #20 Team 18 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1

Practice 1: P23 (1:52.9177)
Practice 2: P22 (1:51.4521)
Qualifying: P21 (1:50.9263)
Race 20: P22 (Fastest Lap: 1:52.8634)

“It wasn’t an amazing day. We’re struggling to find some car speed at the moment, both cars were both outside the top 20, just missing out on Q2, and the race was pretty much the same.

“We are trying everything we can to try and improve the car, and we’ll be back tomorrow for what is another two 100 kilometre races.

“Today was a disappointing day, but it is not over. We’ve still got another day, so we will have a tune up overnight, keep throwing the toolbox at it and see what we can come up with tomorrow and hopefully have a better day.”
