Team 18 has proudly announced the appointment of Adrian Burgess as its new Team Principal, effective February 1, 2024.

This strategic move marks a significant reunion between Burgess and Team Owner Charlie Schwerkolt, rekindling their successful partnership that led to championship glory at Dick Johnson Racing alongside driver James Courtney in 2010.

Bringing an illustrious background in motorsport, Burgess, a highly respected English-born mechanic, engineer, and team principal, boasted an impressive tenure in Formula One at McLaren, marked by World Championship successes with racing legends Mika Häkkinen and Ayrton Senna.

Burgess made his foray into the Australian racing scene in 2006, collaborating with Schwerkolt at Dick Johnson Racing, where their partnership guided the team in clinching the 2010 Supercars Championship for James Courtney.

Following his tenure at DJR, Burgess assumed the role of Team Manager at Triple Eight Race Engineering, overseeing Jamie Whincup’s three consecutive Championships from 2011 to 2013, including the 2012 Bathurst 1000.

Burgess’s career trajectory saw him contribute significantly to various teams, including Walkinshaw Racing and Tekno Autosports, before becoming the Head of Motorsport at the Repco Supercars Championship in 2018.

Burgess steps into the role at Team 18 after leading the Supercars Championship through a pivotal phase, guiding the transition to the sport’s latest technical regulations with Gen3. His appointment signifies the commencement of a new era for the team for their next period of success, as the team welcomes David Reynolds alongside Mark Winterbottom in their new look driver lineup.

The 2023 Repco Supercars Championship concludes at this week’s VAILO Adelaide 500, before the 2024 season kicks off at the Bathurst 500 on 23-25 February.
