2020 Repco Supercars Bathurst 1000

Both Team 18 cars featured in the top ten in final practice for the 2022 Repco Bathurst 1000 at the Mount Panorama circuit.

Two practice sessions were held on Saturday, the first for additional drivers and the second for primary and co-drivers.

IRWIN Racing co-driver Michael Caruso was 19th in Practice 5, before Mark Winterbottom posted a time of 2:06.2106 to finish eighth fastest in Practice 6.

After setting pole position in Super2 qualifying earlier in the day, Alspec Racing co-driver Tyler Everingham was 25th in Practice 5, before Scott Pye set a 2:06.3477 to finish tenth fastest in Practice 6.

Despite not progressing through to the Top 10 Shootout, which was eventually cancelled due to extreme wet weather, the two sessions today proved extremely valuable for the team to finalise their car setup and strategy for tomorrow’s 1000km enduro, with drying conditions on the horizon for Sunday.

Sunday’s action kicks off with a warm-up session at 8am AEDT, before the Bathurst 1000 kicks off at kicks off at 11:15am AEDT, running for 161 laps.

The Repco Bathurst 1000 can be viewed live, free-to-air on Channel 7, as well as on Fox Sports, Kayo, and 7Plus.

Scott Pye, driver #20 Alspec Racing Team 18 Holden ZB Commodore

“Really excited for the race tomorrow, it’s going to be a huge day with plenty of opportunity.

“If  it’s dry I’m quite comfortable with our car, if it’s wet, we’ll have to tune it up a bit in the morning but over the 1000km we’ll be in a good spot at the end of it.”

Tyler Everingham, co-driver #20 Alspec Racing Team 18 Holden ZB Commodore

“I had a bit of wet running in the additional drivers session, it was more just about keeping the car safe and getting my feet out there so we didn’t push it too hard.

“I think it was a pretty successful day, practice 6 when it dried up we were quite fast, I’d say we’d have a top five car if it stays dry.

“It’s a long day so we’ll do our best to make it happen.”

Mark Winterbottom, driver #18 Racing Team 18 Holden ZB Commodore

Michael Caruso, co-driver #18 IRWIN Racing Team 18 Holden ZB Commodore

“It was good to get some wet running for the first time this weekend.

“The weather tomorrow looks mixed, so I’ve now driven the car in the wet and dry so tomorrow is going to bring its challenges with the mixed conditions so we’ll have a good rest tonight and energise up for tomorrow.”
