TRADIE Beer Racing’s David Reynolds and DEWALT Racing’s Mark Winterbottom endured a challenging Race 15 at Sydney Motorsport Park, coming home in 17th and 25th respectively.
The day started promising with Reynolds making the Top 10 Shootout and started ninth in the race, with Winterbottom in 15th after positive changes were made overnight.
Winterbottom’s race unraveled on Lap 1 when he locked up and tagged Macauley Jones and sent the pair spinning. Winterbottom pitted with a broken steering arm sustained in the contact, and got back out to circulate and finish 25th.
Reynolds race started strong as he made ground early inside the top ten. However, Reynolds spun at Turn 5 on Lap 28 while defending Broc Feeney for ninth spot, and lost seven positions after that.
Reynolds hung on to finish 17th with a two-stop strategy, but will be hoping to start off strong again and move forwards in Race 16.
Winterbottom meanwhile will take the positives from today’s qualifying speed and look to reset and bounce back at Sydney Motorsport Park tomorrow.
Team 18 are back in action tomorrow for Qualifying at 12:05pm, the Top 10 Shootout at 1:40pm and Race 16 at 4:05pm. All the action can be viewed live on Fox Sports and Kayo, check your local guides for further details.
RESULTS & QUOTES
Mark Winterbottom, driver #18 DEWALT Racing Chevrolet Camaro ZL1
Qualifying: 15th
Race 15: 25th
“Not a good day. Unfortunate for Macauley [Jones], didn’t want to see him off the track, but then we got damage, and it was a nothing race, really.
“I think we’re good enough to get the top ten shootout tomorrow. We should have got in there today, but just a couple of things didn’t go right.”
“We’ll fix her up and focus on tomorrow.”
David Reynolds, driver #20 TRADIE Beer Racing Chevrolet Camaro ZL1
Qualifying: 10th
Shootout: 9th
Race 15: 17th
“Rolled out today much better in qualifying. We made small changes to the car and the car came alive. In the first run I ended up third and then P10 overall.
“We’re still a little bit off the pace but the car was much more drivable for me.
“In the race got an average start and then kind of just managed my life from that point on. I was dicing with Feeney and I feel really bad about that, that was completely my fault so I’ll own up to that one. It probably cost about 10 seconds, which maybe should have finished 13th, 14th or something, we ended up 17th.
“At the end of the day, we just didn’t have enough pace, our cars aren’t fast enough, but we’ve got a lot of theories bouncing around at the minute, and hopefully we can land one.”
